We know that retail sales associates enjoy being incentivized with awards, but what type of awards are most attractive to them? We recently surveyed over 1,000 U.S. retail sales associates about their award preferences, and we’re here to share our findings.

eGift Cards

Electronic gift cards are some of the most desired awards because of how quickly they can be used after redemption. So, we weren’t surprised when we saw which eGift cards came out on top. Below are the top five fan-favorite electronic awards offered on SellPro that sales associates love:

  1. Amazon
  2. Starbucks
  3. VISA
  4. Chipotle
  5. Domino’s

Preferred eGift Card Types

We’re constantly trying to refresh the awards available to store associates, so we also like to gain some intel on what other electronic awards they would like to see added on SellPro. Below are the top five most desired electronic awards that associates want:

  1. Taco Bell
  2. Panda Express
  3. Grocery stores (Vons, Kroger, etc.)
  4. Lowe’s
  5. Nike

The most desired electronic eGift cards are a mixture of food and shopping, with emphasis on more food and grocery cards. It’s important to note that we also allowed for store associates to write in what awards they would like, and we received a ton of requests for gaming related electronic awards. Our honorable mentions are Steam, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo.

Swag Works, Too

It shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone who knows sales associates that a lot of them love food and games – it’s an enjoyable life to many. All these electronic awards seem super attractive, but don’t let that scare you into thinking you can only incentivize store associates with food and games, they love branded swag too! In the same survey, we asked them what types of client-branded swag they want. Below is a graph showing the types of swag sales associates are into:

Nearly 73% of store associates want to represent your brand through clothing. That’s one of the highest compliments you can receive as a brand trying to get your name out there. Also, almost 50% want pins, badges, stationary and writing swag, so it’s time to go through your warehouse and locate that leftover swag we know you’re saving for a rainy day.

The moral of the story is that retail sales associates want to be treated with a variety of awards, but specifically food, gaming, shopping, and swag awards.

Of course the number one type of award that store associates want to earn/win are products. Getting your own merch into the hands of the people making customer recommendations also the best way to influence the sale. It’s a win-win by having them know your brand better, they recommend it more.
